Holiday Season

Well, we had a very good Christmas this year. My brother and his family came for Christmas dinner and we all had a good time. I got a new 28-300mm camera lens, so I spent most of my time snapping photos of everything. I also got an IR activated camera (like hunters use to track game) now I know how much our cat, Ozcar roams around during the wonder he sleeps all day! Here is a shot of a completed place marker. I decided to add the 'snow' to the flower pot to make it more festive.
I've also added a couple photos of some ornaments that mom made me. We decided that instead of exchanging store bought gifts every year, we would make each other home-made ornaments. We've been doing this for @ 6 years now and it's great fun to see what we get. Next year, my sister-in-law is going to join in on the fun.
Nester the Long-eared Donkey was this years ornament. He's made out of polymer clay.
Max from the Grinch Who Stole Christmas was from a couple years ago. He's made out of walnuts, wire, a stick and some felt.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all. I've been busy decorating the house and Christmas shopping, but did take the time to make some place settings for Christmas dinner and ornaments to attach to the pies we give the neighbors for Christmas.
The place setting will be stuck into a painted flower pot filled with candy...just like the ones I did for Thanksgiving. I sponged green watercolor onto watercolor paper and stamped poinsettas in blue/green. I embossed cardstock with Winter Wonderland embossing powder and punched out the snowflakes in two different sized. The envelope is made with an 1.5x 1" enveloped paper punch using a Chrismas print paper. The 'List' was done in Photoshop CS2 using a graphic I downloaded from ScrapGirls. For the final look, I painted 2" flower pots, hot glued a small piece of florist foam in the bottom and stuck the above 'sign' in. I covered the foam with spanish moss and covered the moss with candy.
These ornaments were made from a kit I got from ArtChix. For the tags, I sponged light blue watercolor onto watercolor paper, stamped Merry Christmas in blue and cut the tag out with decorative scissors. I then took some cardstock and embossed it with Winter Wonderland embossing powder and punched out the snowflakes with two different size punches. I attached a silver grommet to the corner and attached the ornament.

Holiday Season

I've been busy getting ready for Christmas...decorating the tree, sending cards, gift shopping...the whole mess. I forgot to scan the cards I made, so no photos of them. Mom and Al returned to Ohio on the 7th. They left just in time before the snow storm. They will be closing on their Walsenburg house next week, but won't return until spring...but it will be for good! :-)

I've completed my Christmas ornament for mom...what do you think?

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! This Thanksgiving is extra awesome for me because it is the first time my mom has celebrated Thanksgiving at my house. We were supposed to have my brother and his family too, but my sister-in-law had an appendectomy yesterday, so they are spending it in the hospital...but she's fine and he's "Thankful" for that.

I finished up my cards for the Sparkle Christmas Fabric ATC swap on yesterday.

Also, my new Nikon D300 camera arrived yesterday!!! This camera is awesome!! Here are a couple pictures I took today with it.

Bo, mom and me.

One of the place settings mom and I made.

Blue Dog

I'm back from my business trip to Dublin, OH....cold and rainy. I did meet a very nice man named Art Schreiber who is the Chairman of the Coalition of the Blind for New Mexico. I assisted him in getting to the Admiral's Club at the Dallas airport and he was kind enough to buy me an ice tea and chat for awhile. It was much better than roaming the airport by myself until it was time for my flight.

I finished up my cards for the Blue Dog swap on this morning. Here they are:

Happy Halloween!!

This is my favorite holiday. We had a party on the 20th (because my brother was visiting then), but this year was kind of mellow. We usually do a haunted house for the kids, but with all the construction on the garage addition, we decided not to this year. My mom is still here in her motor home, so she handed out candy too...kinda funny (she had a tiny jack-o-lantern in the window). We worked for the last couple days on the ATCs for the House Swap II on Here they are:

Mom's Visiting

Ok...Ok...I haven't been very crafty lately cuz my mom and brother are visiting. Mom and I did manage to 'knit' a couple scarves with our Knifty Knitters (pictures later). We also went to a "Movie at the Cemetery" hosted by the Evergreen Cemetery Society. We saw was way cool and I got a couple pictures with 'orbs'!!

I also created this card from my neice, Shannon, who turned 17 on October 14th.

Photo Card

I was out of town on business last week, so I haven't had much time for crafting until today.

I found this idea in a book on making cards. I decided to make them to hang in my guest bedroom. The photos are of my great grandmother and grandfather, Laura & Lemuel Stout. I used some of my home-made paper in the 'matting'.

I first put them in some really ornate frames, but I didn't like that. I ended up putting them in simple wooden frames that don't overshadow the photos.

Latest ATCs Done

I've completed my ATCs for the 'Get Celtic Knotted' swap on Here they are:

The only other artsy thing I've done lately is a pencil drawing of a fountain at Evergreen Cemetery. I'm a taphtophile and love photographing the cemetery...the cross on my ATCs is actually a tombstone from Evergreen.

The big news is that Bo, my most excellent husband, pre-ordered the Nikon D300 D-SLR camera for me!!! I won't be in until early Dec, but I'm still excited!!

Homemade Paper

I finally found an old blender at the flea market and made some homemade paper. I bought the kit at the flea market a couple weeks ago for $.50...brand new!! The blender was $8, so for $8.50, I have my own paper. I've attached pictures of some Halloween shapes I made. I also made a very nice, light green sheet, but I've already cut that up for ATCs. My first two attempts were measured wrong, i.e I didn't measure the correct amount of shredded paper and ended up with something more like cardboard...very nice cardboard, but not what I was going for. Once I used the corrected amount of shredded paper, it turned out really nice and wasn't very hard to do at all.

Worst Possible Taste

OK...that ATC swap theme is "In the Worst Possible Taste" here are my submissions. I probably could have gotten worse, but I was on a short timeline since these are going to the UK.
They were all done digitally, which I haven't done before...not the digital stuff, just never for an ATC.

Working Weekend

Despite the fact that I had to work this weekend, I managed to create the journal card for the theme "Funny". I love the movie Slingblade and when I saw the theme, this is the first thing that came to mind.

First Journal Pages

OK...I was invited by a fellow crafter to do a couple journal pages for her in exchange for a couple ATCs. I was a little intimidated since these are the first journal pages I've done, but here they are...the theme is fantasy (dragons, fairies, etc.):
The dragon is drawn with colored pencils and the background and castle are done in watercolor. I used salt for the weird effect in the sky. I used a corner punch to add detail to the corners.

The background and body of the fairy are done in watercolor (again, salt was used to get that mottled look in the background). The wings are handmade paper with watercolor detail, the wand and explosion are done with embossing powder over watercolor. I added fibers to the two corners...not for any particular reason. I punched the corners and did a little embossing detail in the two right corners. The journaling on both was done in Photoshop CS2.

Labor Day Weekend

I've completed half the invitations to our Halloween Games Night Party. We do this every year for Halloween and St. Patrick's Day. I made my invitations to look like coffins...

4x4 Geocaching

I took out the new Jeep for a little 4-wheeling while Geocaching. I had a great time, despite ending up with a tire off the ground...D#$%, we're in a tight spot!

I joined another swap on This one is Paranormal Phenomena. I picked ghosts, Atlantis and aliens (in honor of my artist friend, Jill Tristram).

I also got my cards back from the Clowns Swap...pretty cool!
