TGIF

It's Friday!! I work from a home office, so I don't know why I'm that excited, but...it's Friday! I've finished my journal cards for the themes "Shoe, There's Always a Story" and "Who/What I miss". The shoes card is entirely digital. The shoes took me on one of the most difficult hikes I've done...to the Skaguay Power Plant in CO. The power plant was built in 1899 and operated until 1965. It's located 5 miles from the Skaguay Reservoir (which was built to supply the water pressure for the power plant). The hike is so difficult that it takes @8.5 hours to go just 5 miles. I started the hike in the boots, switched to the tent slippers in camp and used the water shoes 1/2 the way back because of all the creeks I had to cross. These shoes were meant for walking...
The 'Who' I miss most is my mother. No, she hasn't passed away...she lives in Ohio. We have so much fun together hiking or crafting or just talking over coffee. I wish she were here.

This is a polymer pin I made to go with my other 'southwestern' pins...now I just need a jacket or something to put them on....looks like a shopping trip is in store. :-)

My First Polymer Cane!

I tried my hand at making a rose cane in polymer clay. I think it turned out pretty well. I got the instructions to do this from the book, "Creative Techniques in Polymer Clay Jewelry". I also completed the journal cards for "Use some ephemera from your week" and "Love" themes (you can't see her, but Molly (our black lab mix) is laying at my husbands feet.) I also made a cute little holder for my clay knife and some stamped polymer pins.

New Week

Well, over the weekend, I completed the Jacob's Ladder photo album...I still haven't got the placement of the pictures down correctly, so 1/2 are upside down?!? I completed two sewn cards (pics below) and I did the journal card for 'Symbol I love' and this week's theme, "A picture that means something to me".
The symbol is one I created for myself. My husband didn't like the long signature on my photos and suggested I create a symbol. The dragonfly has my initials in the body...can you see them? I am now the photographer formerly known as SMullis. :-)
The photo that I love is one of my grandfather (Pappy) giving me a drink out of his giant thermos. I remember Pappy always wearing a red and black plaid shirt, so that was the inspiration for the background.
The designs on these cards are made with a series of pin holes that are then sewn from one side of each shape to the other and rotating.

I Am...

That is the theme for the journal card I did today. I've also included a picture of the card I did for the theme, "What is powerful to me". If you can't guess, I'm prior Army and my husband is retired Navy. :-) I started working on a Jacob's Ladder photo book that I saw on CraftTV. I decided to cut the mat board out myself...now my fingers are tired. I'm taking a little break and I'll get back to it.

I'm Alive!

Woo Hoo! My main PC is finally up and running again! . So now I can upload pictures of what I am doing. Here are pictures of the first two altered playing card journal cards that I've done.
This is for the first card with the theme "Something I'm proud of".

This is for the most recent card for the theme "Remember when...".

I had a good time making these and will try to get caught up from January. :-)

Below are pictures of some things I've made out of polymer clay...

I've also posted some vintage butterfly pics to my flickr collage site. I'll add more as I have time to scan them in.

I also do beading, quilling, paper crafts, etc. I'll post more on those later. I want to get this posted before my PC crashes again. :-)

Altered Card Journal

I've decided to try to complete the Altered Playing Card Journal that I read about on Crafted By Us. I completed my first card on the topic of "I am proud". I'll upload a pic as soon as my computer is back up...the tech in on his way today!!

New ATC Swap

OK...I signed up for a ATC Swap at ATCards.com. It's called Creepy Carnival Swap and the theme is...as you may guess...carnival sideshows. "Freaks" is one of my favorite classic movies. I figured this would be a good thing to 'get me going' with my ATCs. I think they are really neat, creative projects to do.

Oh...Dell Update...the parts weren't shipped until yesterday, so it will probably be tomorrow before the tech even calls to schedule...this is like having a broken arm...things just aren't right in my world. :-)

Still Waiting...

My main computer is still down...waiting on the Dell tech to call to schedule the repair. I've been spending that time on my laptop getting great crafting ideas. I found a site called Craft Creations that has tons of project plans for all sorts of different mediums...they mostly focus on greeting card designs, but the ideas are great. I also participated in an Artist Trading Card (ATC) swap with Michelle from Crafted By Us. Michelle does a craft podcast that is great and has really inspired me to try my hand at different things (like making ATCs) I made my ATCs from translucent polymer clay. I received some great cards and was pleasantly surprised to learn that one of the participants (Amanda) was inspired to try her own polymer ATC after receiving mine. :-) Well...I think I'll work on a craft while I wait for the Dell tech to call...

Day One!

I decided to start this blog to share the crafts that I do with others. Crafting has become a sort of therapy to me...much needed relief from a somewhat stressful job. Of course, the day I decide to do this is the day my primary PC (aka the one with all my photos) crashes...so now I await a Dell technician with a new motherboard.
